KITTEN CAREVACCINATIONThe basic three in one vaccine covers Feline enteritis, Herpes virus and Calicivirus. Herpes and Calicivirus cause what is commonly known as "cat flu"This disease is rarely fatal, but is highly contagious & once contracted by your cat it can never be removed from the body. Protection can also be given against leukemia virus, although only cats in multiple cat households are at risk of that disease.
WORMING:Kittens can get intestinal worms from their mother as well as fleas. Kittens should be wormed fortnightly until 12 weeks of age. Then monthly until 6 months. Cats should be wormed every 3 months during adulthood. Cats that hunt a lot may need extra worming for a few common tapeworm or lungworm. Available in tablet or paste forms. HEARTWORM:Heart worms, unlike other worms, are spread by mosquitoes. Cats are vulnerable to this debilitating disease which can fill the heart with worms clogging blood flow and causing heart failure. Discuss with your vet whether you should treat your kitten with a heartworm preventative. DESEXING:For non breeding cats, desexing is recommended at 6 months of age. For male cats this will greatly reduce unwanted territorial behaviours such as urine spraying, fighting or aggression. It will also decrease the spread of the feline AIDS virus which is transferred via bite wounds For female cats desexing reduces the risk of breast cancer and life threatening uterine infections. Besides these advantages, you will also prevent the birth of unwanted kittens.
