This case is to show you what can happen to dogs that have been involved in cruelty or made homeless.

Meet Roxsy Kruger... Roxsy is a ¾ Cattle dog Cross Staffy, and is 9 years old. Roxsy was taken on by Marijke 6 years ago. When Roxsy first came to live with Marijke she was a very nervous dog - scared whenever you picked up hose, broom or even just raising your hand for any reason.

With a lot of love and time spent, Roxsy has become a great companion for Marijke. She loves being hosed after a game and must be with her master every moment of the day. The history of Roxsy is scratchy, she was involved in a car accident and as a result lost her left hind leg. This has not stopped her by any means! Her favourite pastime is rounding up cattle, and if there are no cows available a human will do. She had an emergency caesarian and survived a brown snake bite before coming to roost with Marijke. Arthritis has taken hold on Roxsy but with the help of a course of Cartrophen Vet Injections and daily dose of Metacam, she is like a puppy again, and everything is a game.

Homeless and cruelty dogs are always a challenge, you don't know exactly what has happened to them previously. They can have mental or physical problems as a result of what has happened, and sometimes it takes many months before these become apparent. This can make it very hard for you and your family and the rescued dog. It soon became apparent that Roxsy became aggressive if people were arguing or laughing loudly. The most important thing to do is make him/her very comfortable, allow them to come out of their shell at their own pace, for if you rush them you can guarantee that you have just taken a step backwards.

Marijke and Roxsy are inseparable, they are best of friends, their bond is like no other. And when asked, Marijke says that yes, she would do it all again.
